Full Mouth Restoration

Dental x-ray of a full mouth

What Is Full Mouth Restoration?

At Oral Solutions NW, we specialize in a treatment concept known as a full mouth reconstruction, which combines cosmetic and restorative procedures to completely overhaul the aesthetics, health, and function of your smile. We may recommend a full mouth reconstruction if you have very few teeth remaining, or problematic teeth that compromise your oral and overall health. Regardless of which treatments you receive, your reconstruction will help give you back a smile you deserve!

What Is a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

A full mouth reconstruction is broad term that refers to a wide variety of treatments designed with the same goal in mind: improving your smile. This concept goes far beyond cosmetics, however. Unlike a smile makeover, a full mouth reconstruction also addresses the function of your teeth, gums, and jaw. Improving your oral health can provide a number of long-term benefits that keep your smile beautiful for years to come.

Who Is in Need of a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Jeffrey Crowley will be able to determine if you are in need of a full mouth reconstruction. Most consultations for this type of treatment include comprehensive exams, digital x-rays, and even 3D imaging technology like CBCT scans. Once we determine that you are a suitable candidate, we can develop a personalized treatment plan.

A number of our patients have oral health problems that require a comprehensive treatment plan. We may recommend a full mouth reconstruction if you have multiple missing teeth, multiple teeth with significant decay, broken teeth, badly worn teeth, and multiple teeth with large fillings or failing restorations. Other candidates for a full mouth reconstruction include those with congenital issues like ectodermal dysplasia, amelogenesis, and dentinogenesis imperfecta.

Possible Treatments for a Full Mouth Reconstruction

A full mouth reconstruction may involve a series of procedures spread out over several years with multiple dental specialists. As oral surgeons, we specialize primarily in implant dentistry, and other surgical treatments designed to restore function and cosmetics. Possible treatments for your full mouth reconstruction include:
•  Dental Implants: Small titanium posts that serve as the anchor of a prosthesis. Implants can be used to support a crown, bridge, or full-arch appliance. In many ways, implant-supported restorations are the next best thing to your natural teeth.
•  Bone Grafting: Your reconstruction may involve more than your teeth and gums. Some patients require a bone graft to qualify for implant treatment. A bone graft can also restore a more youthful facial appearance after the deterioration caused by tooth loss.
•  Soft Tissue Grafting: Patients with advanced periodontal disease may suffer from severe gum recession. A soft tissue graft can restore your gums and keep any remaining teeth in a healthier condition. Gum recontouring can also improve the aesthetics of your smile.
•  Tooth Extractions: We will always try to save a tooth before we recommend an extraction. However, this is not always possible. You may need an extraction to stop the spread of infection or alleviate the painful symptoms associated with impacted teeth.
•  Orthognathic Surgery: Corrective jaw surgery may be required to improve your bite and prevent future problems. Correcting a malocclusion (misaligned bite) can increase the longevity of your teeth and restorations.
